History
Lambda
Sigma Gamma Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Sacramento
State University in 1986. Our Founder, Linda V. Fuentes ignited
the organization the first year by recruiting 26 founding mothers.
Our 27 Founding Mothers realized that the campus did not offer
an organization that met the needs of women from minority backgrounds.
They were interested in forming an organization that would not
only act as a family away from home, but that would also bring
together women from various backgrounds and incorporate the principles
of self improvement, scholastic excellence, civic responsibility
and leadership. Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority became a reality on
October 24, 1986, when twenty-seven women sharing the same interest,
beliefs and goals came together. Since then, 21 additional chapters
have joined our family, with our most recent chapter at California
State University, Fullerton on November 20, 2004. Over the years,
Lambda Sigma Gamma Sorority, Inc. has grown to include hundreds
of women from different creeds, ethnicity's, cultures, social-economic
backgrounds, physical talents, mental abilities and sexual preferences.
We are continuously growing and welcoming new women to take part
in our sisterhood.
